Post 2; One Week Prequel

This is my last week of urban life, and today was taken advantage of nicely. Woke up around noon, my first thoughts being "this will be my last week to sleep in." Through out the day I did a lot of research on the native plants of my region in hopes to come up with a plan to recultivate the open weeded grass on the bottom half of the acreage I'll be living on. Currently it's all 3 foot tall weeded field, with a broken pond surrounded by black berry bushes. My plans are to spend the month before winter cutting down and freeing up the soil to plant a nice mixture of native wildgrass and flowers to help promote a healthier soil. By the first break of spring I'll be able to recultivate some of that land along with some of the "lawn" into a vast vegetable garden to help sustain a very healthy organic vegan diet. In order to fill in all the facets of my diet that I can't from home, such as the elusive vitamin B-12, I have to take a 20 mile trek to the closest metro. I plan on doing this on bike. Obviously I plan on recording many miles of bike rides, which will promote my respitory and cardio-vascular health, all while being low impact to preserve joint integrity.

Along with riding bike I plan on utilizing local auctions, secondhand shops, as well as craigslist to buy and collect road and mountain bikes. Over the time I have, along with everything I listed in the last post, I plan on restoring these bikes and selling them for as minimal profit as possible so I can make a couple bucks to buy some resources, a long with promoting my "One Less Car" belief. Seeing as how this will start out pretty slow, having to learn bikes, obtain the appropriate tools and parts, figuring out where to sell them, I will not have a car to deliver the bikes. More often than not, my plan is to ride the bike I'm selling (as carefully as possible ;) ) to the local train station. If it's withing the local metro, I can meet them there, but if they're in a connected metro, up to a $50 train ride away I will be willing to deliver it as long as the ticket is covered in the price of the bike (negotiable), then I'll just hop back on the train and walk home, the whole 20 miles.

The latter half of my day I researched vegan recipes, and remembered one of my favorites. Perfect for those who like to avoid gluten, or just enjoy a nice summer squash! Just head over to Summer Tomato: Better Than Pasta Subtitutes: Summer Squash Noodle Recipe and Video. Aside from a great recipe than my urban friends have enjoyed, the possibilies with this pasta are nearly as wide as standard pasta. Squash is also a great source of Vitamin A, a decent source of vitamin C, along with a good amount of carbs, and some calcium and iron. Even 2g of protein per cup (205g) of squash.

My train of thought is dwindling, so I'm going to end my post at this. Sleeping in, researching bike repair and gardening, and transistioning to veganism; goals of this week.

Thanks for your time,

First Post; The Plan

Hello, for purposes of anonymity you can call me Peter. I'm an 18 year old high school graduate who has been couch hopping since recieving his diploma. People can blame the economy, but I don't really care to blame anything short of outsourcing and the like to why I can't even get a job at a McDonald's. I'm better off. This next coming week I'm taking up residence at a remote cabin a drive and a half from any town.

A little background. Like I had said I'm an 18 year old high school graduate. I have been a fond meat eater to this point. I listen to music too much like most of my age group. I dabble in playing instruments of varying loudness and aptitude. I enjoy trying to be artistic, though don't get much anywhere due to lack of motivation; which brings me to the point of this blog and my relocation away from civilization.

I will be using this blog as an anonymous vent to let people know what it's like to reconstruct your life at 18. I don't feel I am above anyone else, I by no means have it hard. The things I plan to accomplish will be set into motion Wednesday, September 23 2009.

First and foremost, I plan on giving up all animal products immediately on that day. I plan to write music more than I listen to it while using the free time I have to become more skilled with any instrument I can get my hands on. Time not involved with my free time will include tending to the cabin and it's upkeep, taking care for the wild life around the area, and tending to a vegetable garden that will be my main source of sustinance. All other time will be devote to learning skills, such as sewing and masonry, to help prepare me for a life where there are less archaicly skilled people. I plan to perfect vegan cooking in my eyes which I will post links to recipes I use, and my input and reinvention of what I find out. I plan on painting, drawing, and writing as much as my time can permit me. And not finally, who knows what else I'll come up with, I plan to rearrange my sleeping pattern, as to create the best schedule to take advantage of sunlight.

Thank you for your time,

Peter A. Jössi
